East Lincoln Speedway Results 6-19-2010

Fans were treated to plenty of racing action Saturday night at East Lincoln Speedway. Heat races were as action-packed as the main events, especially in the Stock Fours division. Three drivers had to start shotgun on the field after winning three weeks in a row and intermission featured bicycle races for the kids in three divisions.

10 cars started the 15-lap Stock Fours main event with inside pole sitter Adam Vandiver jumping to the lead over Lee Oiler, winner of heat 2. The first caution came out on lap three as the 21j of Ed Mann and the B52 of Mitchell Stowe made contact down the front stretch landing Mann against the front inside wall. In short order the 27 of Kiefer suffered hard luck off turn four ending his night. The 95 of Vandiver restarted in the lead followed by the 59 of Oiler, 23 of Calen Holden, 18 of Dylan O’Daniel and 4 of Jeff Crump. At lap five, leader Vandiver lost the handle, hitting the front inside wall near the flag stand and heading pitside with a right front flat. Oiler took over the lead while spots two to four had Holden challenged by O’Daniel and Crump. Vandiver, back out, worked his way back to the fifth spot by lap seven. Turn two was a nemesis for O’Daniel as he spun out there in hot laps, the heat race and the main event. On the caution, the 6 car of Logan Sparks also went pitside. Oiler restarted in the lead followed by Vandiver, Crump, Mann and Holden. With two laps to go the caution flag dropped as Holden went around in turn two. A green-white checkered finish had Vandiver making a few attempts to dive inside Oiler. Off the last corner the two were in a virtual drag-race to the line, with Oiler nipping Vandiver and Crump coming in third. Mann, who started 12th and was involved in an early incident, had a fine fourth place finish. Holden finished in fifth.  Afterward, winner Oiler thanked Vandiver for racing him clean and said he had never been in a heat race and feature with so many wrecks and action in all his 13 years of racing.

The 15-lap Mini Sprint main event featured seven cars with Terry Peters starting shotgun after winning three weeks in a row. A fine performance was put on by the 12 car of Darren Hasty and 54 of Justin Lineman who ran one-two for the first half of the race. By lap three, Peters had made his way up to third. The first caution came out with four laps down as the 11 of Shawn McElroy lost power stopping down the front stretch. Hasty powered to the front on the restart stretching his lead over Lineman by six car lengths. Peters continued to move up on Lineman and took over second by lap 10. At lap 11, the 11 car stopped again bringing out the caution and on the restart Peters made his way past Hasty down the backstretch. One more caution saw hard luck for Lineman. Peters led the final 3 laps followed by Hasty and the 28 of Coby Adams, now in third. Peters got his fourth win in a row, followed by Hasty, Adams, the 17B of Sam Beam and the 68 of Robert Elms.

Josh Morrow was the second driver of the evening to starting at the back of field after three previous wins in the Legends division. The 12-lap feature had the 8 car of Chandler Levan and 25 of Robert Poole starting on the front row.  Poole jumped to the early lead with Levan second and Morrow up to third by the second lap. By lap four Baldwin had moved into third as Morrow appeared to struggle with the handling of his car. Levan continued to lead while Poole made several attempts to get by him diving to the inside. Levan took the checkered flag for his first win at ELS. He celebrated in victory lane thanking the drivers who raced him clean. He was also excited to get the win on his birthday weekend, turning 15 on Sunday.

Eight cars took to the track for the 15-lap Super Street Stocks main event. Pole sitter Josh Cook, in the 88 car, took command of the race with much action in his rear view mirror. Cook was followed by the D2 of David Lucas who ran into trouble early hitting the wall in turn two on lap four and heading pitside. The other ‘88’ car, Randy Powell moved into the second position and a door-to-door and nose-to-tail battle ensued between him and division point’s leader Jennings Herman. The 11 car of Kenny Willett stopped between turns 1 & 2 shortly after the restart bringing out another caution. Cook stayed in control out front after the next restart while Hermann moved into second. A wild battle including spots of three-wide racing occurred between Powell, Herman and the 55 of Darryl Roark. On the final lap Cook stayed strong to take the checkered flag. Herman got out of sorts spinning around on the final turn. Powell drove by to claim second place and Roark roared in third. Herman straightened out his machine to limp across fourth and the 07 of Kenny Bridges took fifth.

11 cars were on the docket for the 20- lap Limited Sportsman’s feature as Brandon White became the third driver of the evening to start shotgun after three wins in a row. The 22 of Lynn Mercer started on the inside alongside the 87 of Ronnie White. After a fast start and restart, Mercer’s car had to go pitside to fix a loose back bumper. On the restart the 14L of Jason Ledford and the 87 of Ronnie White ran side-by-side down the backstretch. They exchanged the front spot for two laps until the 14 stopped off turn two bringing out the caution. On the restart, Brandon White, already up to the fourth position, stuck the  nose of his 26 machine to the inside of the 7f of Scott Freeman. Freeman, who was having a fine run, dropped to third while Brandon White set his sights on Ronnie White. The caution came out next for the 13 of Trace Childers on the inside of turn four. On the restart Brandon White and Ronnie White raced side-by-side for half a lap until Brandon powered on by into first. Mercer, back on the track, moved slowly through the field and took over second from Ronnie White. With 11 laps down and Brandon White seemingly in command of the race, a caution came out for debris on the front stretch. Mercer made up ground on the restart. He made several attempts to dive to the inside but was not able to get by White. With 16 laps down Mercer’s car started smoking. With a right rear tire down he had to take it pitside along with Michael Benfield whose 1 car was spewing smoke and oil.  Brandon White led the final four laps taking the checkered flag for his fourth win in a row and passing inspection despite a protest. Ronnie White came home second with Freeman third, the 50 car of Keith Bowman fourth and the 91 car of Tom Salony in fifth.

Nine cars made up the field for the 15-lap Renegades main event. Jamie Major jumped into the lead from an outside starting position ahead of division point’s leader and pole sitter Steve Newsome. The 8 car led the 11 and Chris Stowe’s 52 ‘Gray Goose’ until the caution came out for Mark Woody with three laps in the books. Major restarted in the lead but with seemingly impending trouble as his front hood became unsecured on the right side. Down the backstretch Newsome’s night came to a screeching halt as he lost a right rear tire and was towed off the track. Woody rejoined the pack and on the next lap Stowe took advantage of Major’s trouble running along side him and getting by him off turn three. Major was not done. He stayed in pursuit for four laps with a flapping hood and partially blocked view. Finally the two frontrunners were almost in a dead heat and Major got by Stowe down the backstretch. Major raced on to take the checkered flag followed by Stowe in second, the 40 of Todd Bolin in third, the 01 of Tyler Hyatt in fourth and the 41 of Brian Toler in fifth. In victory lane Major said it was a great race even though he could not see well. He also dedicated the win to his dad and little brother for Father’s Day weekend.
