East Lincoln Speedway Results 6-5-2010
Announcer Ozzie Altman was in the house to call Saturday night’s racing at East Lincoln Speedway. Guests included candidate for Lincoln County Commisioner and race fan Cecelia Martins and her husband Steven Martin. Super late model driver Tim ‘The Tool Man’ Allen joined Alan Dean from BioWeapon Fuels and brought out the #17 late model for some spins around the track. The locally-based company’s goal is to bring environmentally-friendly fuels to the race track. Race car drivers went into the stands at intermission to take up a special collection for Super Stock Fours driver Gary ‘Pechi’ Fioramanti. Fioramanti recently underwent surgery but hopes to get his ‘Party Wagon’ and ‘Girls’ back on the track in the near future.
The 15 lap Stock Fours feature started with a bang. Pole sitter Lee Oiler took the lead on lap one but didn’t get far before a major crash brought out the red flag. Luke Rogers, Ed Mann and Adam Vandiver got together off turn three, with the 48L flipping and crashing into the outside wall. After the clean-up with drivers okay, the 21 car of Mann was miraculously able to rejoin the field. Oiler led Sparks by five car-lengths by lap two while Hank Kiefer followed in third and Adam Vandiver in fourth. With four laps in, Mann, dealing with front-end damage, went head on into the inside barrier off turn four bringing out the caution. Oiler restarted in first, followed by Sparks. A tight race continued between Vandiver, Kiefer and Crump for the next three spots. With five laps to go, Vandiver’s car suddenly slowed between turns three and four and headed pitside. Oiler took the checkered flag despite Sparks closing on the final lap. Kiefer, Crump and Holden rounded out the top five.
The 15 lap Mini Sprint main event had the 54 of Linwood’s Justin Lineman starting on the inside alongside Concord’s Terry Peters. On lap two Lineman and Peters swapped positions between turns one and two before Peters shot to the lead down the backstretch. With three laps in, the 11B of George Blaney went pitside. By the half-way point, Peters had extended his lead to 10 car-lengths over Lineman. Peters took the checkered flag followed by Lineman in second, Darren Hasty in third, Coby Adams in fourth and Robert Elms in fifth. Peters thanked his crew and Steve McElroy and the team also gave out posters and other gifts to fans during intermission.
Legends cars put on a fast-moving show with lots of two and three-wide racing. The 12-lap main event had Robert Poole starting alongside Brock Baldwin and dominating the first half of the race. Josh Morrow took over the second position by lap five, followed by Lee Jordan in third and Baldwin in fourth. With eight laps complete, the caution came out as the 23 car of Jimmy Henley found itself on the inside apron in turn two. Morrow took advantage of the restart, running door to door with Poole for a lap and then sliding to the inside to take over the lead on lap ten. Morrow took the checkered flag while Jordan, who was running third, spun out on the final turn. Poole finished second with Baldwin in third, Bolin in fourth and Chandler Levan in fifth.
Eight cars were on the docket for the 15 lap Super Street Stocks main event. The 1h of division point’s leader Jennings Herman took the lead followed closely by the 15 of Brad Williams. David Lucas took his car pitside as Herman and Williams battled for the lead for the first four laps. Williams was not to be denied, sliding past Herman off turn two and extending his lead down the backstretch by lap five. The 60 car of Arnold Propst ran third, challenged by the 88 of Randy Powell. Powell passed Probst by lap six and set his sites on the leader. Powell and Herman, who had traded paint in the heat race, battled again for the second spot. Kenny Bridges and Brian Nuhfer had another race going on behind them for the fourth spot. Probst brought out the caution on lap nine hitting the front inside wall. Williams went unchallenged on the restart with a strong run in the final laps to take the win. Herman finished second followed by Powell in third. Bridges got past Nuhfer down the final front stretch taking fourth. Bridges car was hit by Nuhfer who slid across the line in fifth.
The 20 lap Limited Sportsman’s feature again belonged to Brandon White. After Jason Ledford brought out the caution on lap one, White surged to the lead on the restart. He was followed by Ronnie White and Brandon Keller. Lynn Mercer, who had problems earlier in the heat race and started ninth, came back in the main event. Mercer made his way to third by lap three and passed Ronnie White by the half-way point. Brandon White maneuvered through all sorts of traffic in the waning laps of the race, but encountered no series challenges. He took the checkered flag for another win. Mercer was second with Ronnie White in third and Brandon Keller in fourth. Tim Sigmon drove the Y44 car for the evening and finished fifth.
Last week’s Renegades winner Mark Woody started alongside Steve Newsome to conclude the evening’s racing in the 15 lap main event. The caution came out quickly as Newsome spun off turn two. Woody restarted in the lead followed by the 01 of Tyler Hyatt and the 23 of Scottie Holden. A lap later, Newsome had raced back up to the second position. Another caution flew on lap four and then at the halfway point as Holden’s car went hard into the wall in turn one. Woody, who also had been coming into turn one, slid his car sideways making slight contact with Holden, but avoiding major damage. Woody restarted in the lead followed by Newsome and Hyatt. Hyatt and Toler got together and the caution came out a lap later as Toler went pitside with a flat. The remaining five laps saw the 15 car of Brandon Atkinson challenging Newsome and passing him on the final lap to cross the line behind Woody. After final inspections, the win was awarded to Steve Newsome, his car sporting a Papa John Box for the evening. Hyatt finished second followed by Jason Boyd, Toler, and Danny Garcia.
